Adding/updating a device

To add or change the configurations of a camera or device, click Setup.
  • On the Setup camera tab, select the camera maker.
  • Select your camera model.
  • Enter the IP address or domain name and the port number of your camera. If you are connecting to a video server, you can enter the number of the channel. (Please refer to the manual of your camera. )

  • Enter your username and password if required.

  • HTTP port
The default HTTP port is 80. If your camera's web port is not 80, change the port number here.

  • RTSP port
The default RTSP port is 554. (Note: The default RTSP port of ACTi camera is 7070.)

  • Enter a number in the Frame rate field. (Please note that the actual frame rate depends on the camera and network performance.)

  • Enable audio
You can check this box to record the audio from the camera or video server. Refer to the hardware supported list to check if the audio of your camera is supported.

To record Axis camera with audio, select 4.4 dual codec firmware or 5.x dual codec firmware from the Model list. Then, select Native camera's compression on the Compression tab.

  • Frame rate
Enter a number in the Frame rate field. (Please note that the actual frame rate depends on the camera and network performance.)
  • To change the resolution of a camera, you can enter the parameter in the Parameters field. For example, to change the resolution of AXIS's camera (firmware 4.x) to 640x480 enter resolution=640x480

IMPORTANT!

1. The network camera or device must have a static IP address. Do not run the camera as DHCP client.

2. It is recommended setting your MPEG4 camera to CBR (constant bit rate) instead of VBR (variable bit rate).

3. To connect to ACTi's camera, set the camera to RTP over UDP, RTP Over Multicast, or RTP Over UDP & Multicast.

4. For Panasonic camera, set "Do not permit access from guest users" in the General Authentication setting. Otherwise, NetCamCenter will fail to connect to the camera.

5. For MPEG4 cameras, always use UDP protocol whenever possible. This reduces delay, jitters and has the best performance compare to HTTP and TCP.

Generic RTSP camera

  • Enter the IP address of your camera.
  • Select the Protocol of your camera.

  • If you have a RTSP MPEG4 or H.264 camera that is not in the select list, you may want to try this option.

Note this MAY OR MAY NOT work with your RTSP MPEG4 cameras. E.g. RTSP protocol at this moment (2007) can't go thru firewall, hence the cameras adopt different ways to tunnel thru firewall, which may or may not be supported by NetCamCenter.

Generic Motion JPEG camera

Most of the network cameras provide single frame access. If you can't find your network camera in the selection box, and you find your camera provides generic JPEG frame access on the documentation, you can select Generic Motion JPEG camera mode. E.g. Axis network cameras provide http://camera_ip_address:port_number/jpg/image.jpg to access the most recent image frame. You can input the IP address and port number, and in JPEG Path field, put in "jpg/image.jpg" (without quotation). You can also use Generic Motion JPEG mode with Webcam Watchdog, Webcam WatchdogX or even with another NetCamCenter. To find the JPEG Path of your Webcam WatchdogX camera, select Setup, Web access tab, you can find the JPEG filename there.
